NEW YEAR’S AGAIN!!!!

"What the new year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year. – Vern McLellan

What are you going to bring to the new year?

At this time of year, I bring up the topic of  New Year’s Resolutions. I don’t like this topic. Over the last few years, I have blogged about resolutions and encouraged you to find something to work on where you would see success. Today, I will look at one of my yearly resolutions that I will approach differently this year.

I often make losing weight my New Year’s Resolution. At this time, I have lost and gained back weight many times. I have not even come close to my ideal weight. VERY depressing. I started with good intentions and planned on losing 100 pounds in one year, but that did not happen. (That was not a reasonable goal.) Beginning with January, I carefully pick food and eat wisely. That lasts until mid-February. Then, the carbohydrates come out to greet me. I say no with my brain but yes with my mouth. The result of that behavior is gaining weight.

When I seriously consider my weight goal, I realize I want to lose weight with little effort and zero consequences when I eat the foods I enjoy. (Right? Isn’t that what we all want?)

2024 has been full of physical issues. I have had the following problems

·      Heart issues – I had an angiogram and am lucky that I only have two areas, 25% blocked

·      Two strokes – An MRI showed that I had two strokes in the last five years.

·      Several biopsies on my thyroid and uterus.

·      PAIN in my hips, and after an MRI, I found that my spine has issues and the cause of the pain in my hips is the nerve pain radiating from my back. (I also struggle with Sciatica.)

So, my weight loss goal is not just a goal; it is a way to prolong my life. I will still work on losing weight, but I will not make it foremost in my mind and beat myself up every time I mess up! I will keep trekking along, looking forward to a better life. (A skinnier life!)

What am I bringing to the new year? I am bringing a better attitude to the New Year! I want to:

·      Look at the positive as opposed to looking at the negative first.

·      Doing a better job encouraging others.

·      I am not taking myself so seriously, but this will be hard. I am harder on myself than anyone else is.

·      Seriously, work on some writing projects.

All of those are difficult, and I do not expect perfection, so I will “roll” with life and do my best!!

I encourage you to explore what you will bring to the new year. We did not cover this in my blog, but there are things that you should leave in 2024.

Happy New Year!!!
